Managing risk in Europe 2007 - a Marsh research report

"One set of conclusions that this study tells us are that many of today’s principal business risks transcend geographies and
have the ability to affect businesses in all countries in Europe. All companies depend on people and assets to function, all
face macro-economic and regulatory challenges, and all need strong leadership and direction to succeed.
The top six risks affecting European companies today as shown by the study are:

1. People-related risks
2. Competition
3. Business Interruption
4. Environmental considerations
5. Financial risks
6. Damage to physical assets"

Understanding China's Business Risk Environment

With its booming economy, huge manufacturing base, enormous supply of natural resources, and expanding consumer spending, it's no surprise that China is high on the agenda for many businesses. More than 90 percent of multinational companies say that China is important to their global strategies, with 52 percent calling it critical, according to a recent survey from Mercer Human Resource Consulting, a Marsh sister company.
But with opportunities come risks. We invite you to download our latest edition of Risk Alert, which looks at a number of key areas of risk that companies already operating in China-or thinking about operating there-need to consider. Among the critical issues considered in the report are:

  • sourcing risks, such as supply-chain and business interruption issues;
  • protection of intellectual property;
  • recruitment, development, and retention of talented employees;
  • trends and concerns in mergers and acquisitions; and
  • the potential pitfalls of the Chinese insurance market.

How CFOs are managing changes in roles and expectations

"The traditional role of the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) as custodian of a company’s financial stability has become more nuanced and complex in recent years, as financial reporting and compliance responsibilities are balanced with strategic business support. Mercer and Russell Reynolds Associates used more than 60 in-person sessions with public company CFOs and key stakeholders in North America and Europe and wideranging desk research to explore how CFOs have managed the impact of a rapidly changing business environment."

Vores søsterselskab Mercer har i samarbejde med Russel Reynolds Associates udgivet ovennævnte rapport.
